When we created Screechy Cat Media in 2024, our goal was to build an outlet to provide our experience in advertising, marketing, and technology to nonprofits, mobile businesses, and chambers of commerce here in the Central Coast. With a majority of our professional experience in digital advertising and marketing, that is where we started as an agency: with nationally-tested but locally-focused digital advertising, social media marketing, and Google Ad Grants subscriptions and custom media plans.

Screechy Cat Media’s aim is to provide top-tier solutions for our nonprofit, small business, and chamber/merchant association clients—solutions that make sense given the size and location of our community. Radio is one of those solutions, with the medium seeing 84% reach with adults 18+ (social media via smartphones only delivers 78% reach) and coming in just below YouTube in terms of time spent listening with Gen Z.
In markets such as ours, radio makes even more sense for advertisers: per Edison Research, rural audiences spend 43% of their “audio time” listening to AM/FM radio via over-the-air or streaming broadcasts. Compare that with urban listeners, who spend 34% of their time listening to these broadcasts. Podcasting only accounts for 6% of a rural listener’s time.

I got this far without a rocket pun, that’s a victory.
Typically I don’t write these blog posts in the first person, but our partnership with Rocket 103.7 is exciting for another reason, as radio is where I first got my start back in Chicago (I actually have a degree in Radio Broadcasting, which that and a dime won’t buy you a quarter; but, I digress). I’m getting back to my roots, and I couldn’t be more excited about the potential for our clients.
